In 2025, Esch et al. found that “Prolific is consistent in delivering the most attentive and reliable responses". It also found Prolific to have "remarkably low dropout rates".

In 2023, Albert and Smilek found that “On Prolific, we observed surprisingly low levels of disengagement. We then conducted the same experiment on MTurk. Strikingly, MTurk participants exhibited more disengagement than Prolific participants.”

In 2023, Douglas et al. discovered that “participants on Prolific [...] were more likely to pass various attention checks, provide meaningful answers, follow instructions, remember previously presented information, have a unique IP address and geolocation, and work slowly enough to be able to read all the items". Prolific was also found to have the lowest cost per high-quality respondent.

In 2022, Peer et al. "found that Prolific provided the highest data quality overall compared to other crowdsourcing platforms”, across attention, honesty, comprehension, and reliability measures.

As early as 2017, Peer et al. found that Prolific participants “were more naive and less dishonest” and “Prolific produced data quality that was higher” with participants who “were also much more diverse.”
